The fern you can see is called 'Dryopteris Jurassic Gold' (Dryopteris wallichiana). Also known as an Alpine Wood Fern, this one is sitting in our bio-dome for protection over the winter. It is essential to protect potted ferns from frost or being waterlogged (which can rot the roots) over the colder months. We keep an eye on them so the they are moist but not wet and pretty much leave them to rest and conserve energy ready for the new growth spurt just around the corner in the spring. Some of our 9cm potted ferns look dreadful and have lost their fronds completely, this is normal for deciduous or semi-evergreen varieties and we are looking forward to seeing them come alive again in the months ahead. Our bio-dome is a calm space at this time of year, there is no rush, just a feeling of gentle peace. Hopeful anticipation can be sensed by just standing with these wonderful plants. We very much wish you all peace and comfort as we navigate our way through the remaining weeks of winter. Tina and Ted
